A night of gunfire in Rochester turned deadly when three police officers were hospitalized, a suspect was killed, and another man was wounded after a domestic dispute erupted into a multi-block shootout.
The 10:15 p.m. Call
At approximately 10:15 p.m., a man dialed 911 to report that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend was attempting to break into her house and might have a gun. The caller also told authorities that he possessed a firearm himself. Police officers were dispatched to the address and found the ex-boyfriend by the side of the house.

The First Exchange
According to Police Chief David Smith, the officers were “without warning, they were shot at close range,” which caused two officers to be wounded. The gunfire continued between the suspect and the man who had called 911, and the caller was shot multiple times. He was later hospitalized in serious condition.
The Suspect Fled and Was Killed
The suspect fled the scene. A few blocks later, another officer found him and was shot. The suspect was then killed in return fire from that officer and additional officers, as stated by Chief Smith.
