Jaguars lock in receiver Jakobi Meyers with a 3-year, $60 M extension, $40 M guaranteed, after trading 2026 picks to acquire him in early November.
The three-year deal, announced Thursday, will keep Meyers in Jacksonville through the 2027 season and adds a substantial financial commitment to the franchise’s wide-receiver group.
A source familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press the contract contains $40 million guaranteed, but the identity of the source was withheld to protect confidentiality on both sides.
Jacksonville (10-4) exchanged its fourth- and sixth-round selections in the 2026 draft with the Las Vegas Raiders to secure Meyers at the trade deadline in early November.
The trade was motivated in part by a season-ending injury to two-way rookie Travis Hunter and by the fact that starting receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown had struggled with dropped passes.
Since joining the Jaguars, the 29-year-old has caught 27 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns in six games, establishing himself as Trevor Lawrence’s most reliable target.
“I feel like it just elevates everybody else’s game around you and around him,” Jaguars running back Travis Etienne said of Meyers earlier this week. “I feel like he made us all so much better. I feel like he’s always making plays. He’s always catching the ball, locking it up. He’s always doing the right thing. He’s always in the right place at the right time. That forces guys to be better, you know? He’s kind of setting the standard. He came and set the standard, and I feel like it raises everybody else’s level of play. Just very grateful he’s on my team.”
General manager James Gladstone highlighted Meyers’ catching ability as a key reason for the trade, noting that the receiver has recorded only one drop this season and has never had more than two in any season throughout his seven-year NFL career.
Meyers’ arrival has coincided with a surge in offensive production; the Jaguars are 5-1 and average 31.8 points per game, nearly ten points higher than the season average before he joined.
Across his NFL career, Meyers has accumulated 453 receptions for 5,299 yards and 23 touchdowns, statistics that were built on a foundation of 235 catches for 2,758 yards and eight touchdowns in four seasons with the New England Patriots.
He began his professional journey in 2019 as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Patriots, later signing a three-year, $33 million contract with the Raiders in 2023.
Meyers was slated to become a free agent after this season, but the extension removes that uncertainty and secures his role in Jacksonville’s plans moving forward.
The Jaguars’ decision to invest in Meyers reflects a broader strategy to solidify the offensive core amid a competitive NFC South landscape.
With the contract in place, the team can now focus on maximizing the synergy between Lawrence, Meyers, and the rest of the receiving corps.
The extension underscores Jacksonville’s commitment to building a winning culture and positions the franchise to compete for a playoff berth in the coming seasons.
