Austin’s 2026 Road Projects Set to Finish, Cutting Congestion

At a Glance

  • 183 North Project toll lanes open in January 2026, finishing February.
  • Loop 360 Project will eliminate traffic lights at Westlake & Cedar by mid-2026.
  • Oak Hill Parkway Project adds lanes and a flyover, wrapping mid-2026.
  • Why it matters: Austin drivers will see fewer stops and smoother commutes.

Austin drivers can breathe a sigh of relief as three long-running construction projects near completion, set to finish in 2026. The 183 North Project, Loop 360 Project, and Oak Hill Parkway Project will bring new lanes, toll options, and traffic-light-free intersections to the city’s major arteries.

183 North Project

The 183 North Project is managed by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority. It adds two variable toll lanes on U.S. Highway 183 from MoPac to State Highway 45, plus an additional free lane and new tolled direct connector ramps at 183 and MoPac.

  • First toll lanes expected to open in the first couple weeks of January on northbound 183 from Burnet Road to SH 45.
  • The entire project is slated to wrap in February 2026.

Loop 360 Project

The Loop 360 Project at Westlake Drive and Cedar Street is a Texas Department of Transportation initiative that will bury the lanes of 360 so drivers will no longer have to stop at the traffic lights at those two intersections. The project is set to wrap in mid-2026.

  • Construction is already preparing for intersections of Courtyard Drive and RM 2222.
  • Work at Courtyard and 2222 begins right after Westlake & Cedar are finished.
  • TxDOT will sink the lanes of 360 at Courtyard and create a diverging diamond intersection at 2222 and 360.

Oak Hill Parkway Project

The Oak Hill Parkway Project is also wrapping up in mid-2026. Since 2021, TxDOT has been building two – and in some spots three – new lanes of traffic in each direction on U.S. Highway 290 from MoPac to Circle Drive.

  • A new flyover will connect 290 and Highway 71.
  • Drivers on 290 will no longer have to stop at the intersections of William Cannon, Convict Hill Road, RM 1826, Scenic Brook Drive and Circle Drive.
