TCU’s Olivia Miles and Marta Suarez Dominate with Triple-Double Streaks, Fueling Record Home Run

Olivia Miles chose TCU after hearing that her new teammate, Marta Suarez, was coming. The dynamic guard’s decision set the stage for a season that has already seen the Horned Frogs keep a perfect 12-0 Big 12 record and extend their home-court winning streak to 33 games.

Miles and Suarez: A Historic Duo

Miles and Suarez are the only NCAA Division I teammates to record triple-doubles in the same game. The 5-10 guard, averaging 18.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and a Big 12-best 7.9 assists per game, said she chose TCU because she wanted a “selfless group and a caring and loving environment.” Her leap of faith is paying off, she added.

Suarez, the 6-foot-3 forward with elite guard skills, smiled when she said she chose the No. 9 Horned Frogs because “they told me Olivia Miles was coming.” She averages 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists for TCU, and her 20-10-10 performance on Tuesday marked her first career triple-double.

Together, they have achieved the third triple-double in a row and the ninth overall for Miles, who played 101 games for Notre Dame over five years before missing the 2023-24 season with a torn right ACL.

Unbeaten and Unstoppable

TCU’s undefeated run continues as the Frogs prepare to open conference play at home against Kansas State. The team’s 33-game home winning streak is the longest in the program’s history. Miles’ recent 25-point, 10-rebound, 11-assist triple-double helped the Horned Frogs win 109-54 over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday.

Miles is the third Division I women’s player with three consecutive triple-doubles-a record that no one has surpassed. She has logged at least 15 points and five assists in every game for TCU, a 12-game streak that is an NCAA record for consecutive 15-5 games to start a season.

The Transfer-Rich Roster

Six new transfers joined the Frogs this season, the same number the team had last year before a record-setting 34-win campaign. All five starters first played at other schools:

  • Guard Maddie Scherr and 6-7-sophomore center Clara Silva transferred from Kentucky.
  • Guard Donovyn Hunter came from Oregon State.
  • Taylor Bigby, a former Southern California player, is the first player off the bench and was a 25-game starter last season when Scherr took a medical redshirt due to a back issue.

Bigby said, “It’s hard to bring in new people and have that chemistry again and being able to be a part of what I was a part of last year. I definitely feel like the camaraderie is there.”

Coach Mark Campbell, who is 67-16 in his third season at TCU, emphasized the locker-room culture: “We have a special locker room. It means everything,” he said. “In the portal era, it is so hard, and I’ve said this with last year’s group, to get a group of people that truly enjoy each other, that have a blast going through this journey, this grind together, that are all in with two feet. We have another group that’s doing that.”

Miles’ Consistency and Confidence

Miles’ season-high triple-double of 25 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists followed two games with 30 points, 21 rebounds and 21 assists. Only Sabrina Ionescu (26) and Caitlin Clark (17) have more career triple-doubles in college than Miles’ nine.

She reflected, “It’s a cool thing to do, to be included with those names, some of the greats of the game. It’s a testament to my consistency and just hard work that I put in the offseason,” Miles said. “But at the end of the day, as long as we’re winning, I’m really happy.”

Key Takeaways

  • Olivia Miles and Marta Suarez are the only NCAA Division I teammates with triple-doubles in the same game.
  • TCU’s home-court winning streak stands at 33 games, and the team remains 12-0 in the Big 12.
  • Six new transfers, including Scherr, Silva, Hunter and Bigby, help build a roster that has already posted an NCAA record 12-game 15-5 streak.

TCU’s blend of veteran talent and fresh transfers, led by Miles’ playmaking and Suarez’s scoring, positions the Horned Frogs as a dominant force in the Big 12 and a team to watch as the season progresses.
